St. Paddy’s day feels like the perfect time to look back and remember those iconic handguns from Boondocks Saints 🤩

We made the whole collection for the 25th anniversary of the movie.
All of these handguns were molded after the real guns from our collection that were used in the movie.

Everything you see here is not real 😄
Just rubber guns we casted and painted like we do on a daily basis for the film industry.

Strange New World season 3.
The Phaser Rifles are amongst the props that made it through several years and keep being used and modified.

@missemprops trusted us to repair and do touch-ups on these wonderful props.
We also got to make some rubber versions and an add-on “scope” looking device to fit over the existing piece on the top of the rifle.
A red LED light strip was integrated on the upper part of that new add-on.

Anybody seen Motorheads season 1?
We worked on that skull in 2024 and we were so pleased to see some really nice shots of it in the series.

It’s not always the most complicated and difficult builds that get good screen time…

Stay tuned for a future post about a really nice and detailed bomb from Twisted Metal that gets only few seconds of exposure, on a very wide shot of a cctv monitor 😅.

Anybody with similar stories of crazy builds that barely made it to the screen? 😆

Strange New World season 3 ep05.
The Temple Medallion was a last minute request from our dear friend @missemprops who got the talented @pkroetsch 3D model it.

We had the gold sphere 3D printed out of uv resin and the rest of it out of clear uv resin.
What you see here is the medallion spinning in our UV light curing chamber.

We had the clear elements glued to the gold sphere with UV glue and cured partially with a UV flashlight before going into the chamber for a full cure.

Murderbot had us challenged with these props. We had to bring them to life with a very short turnaround.

Sci-fi medical equipment that we 3D modelled to house LED lights and functional details.

The haptic gloves were by far the toughest one with the flexible luminescent tubes and LEDs in the finger tips with very little space for wires and batteries.

The goggles were based on existing welding goggles that we made an external housing for and integrated LEDs running along the inside of the screen.
We do not see it in this scene but the cards was to be inserted in the top slot to turn on the lights.

Another prop from Wayward.
The show needed some customized details on an existing guitar.
We designed these elements to match the theme of the toad featured in the series.

Laser engraving and cutting of actual wood veneer for this piece.
Nothing crazy and yet so satisfying 😊

Wayward was another show we were part of in 2024. One of our favorite piece was the replica of the toad.

The real toad may have done most of the heavy lifting on set, but we got to make its stunt double 😄

From a 3D model, we printed and created a mold to cast the toad out of silicone.

The painting was the hardest part. Matching the skin colour and pattern of the real one from pictures was challenging but a lot of fun!! 🤩

In 2024 we had the pleasure to work on several interesting props for Murderbot.
This “phaser” was brought to us by the prop master on the show. The hero version we got was built by another shop.
Beautiful piece, machined alloy frame.

We made a mold of it and casted several rubber versions of that weapon including a lightweight one with a metal plate embedded in it so it could be held by a strong magnets on the robot’s body.

Strange New World season 3 ep03.
@missemprops and @pkroetsch did a great job at designing this new iteration of the Klingon Tricorder and tasked us with building the hero versions as well as the stunt rubbers.

The challenge was to integrate a touch screen device for visual playback and keep it accessible.
Within this small space we also had to plan for green LED lights to shine on both faces.

On the back side of the Tricorder, the silver center piece and the darker metal part around are one solid element that can be removed. It holds onto the rest of the housing thanks to strong earth magnets and gives access to the device inside for charging and switching on/off the green lights.

Continuing with the Star Trek series, here is the Vesda tablet and signet ring from Strange New World Season 3 ep05.

An interesting chalenge brought to us by @missemprops on an original model by @pkroetsch.

We had to match specific requirements for this tablet to fit in a set piece and also match the aesthetics. All of it was resin printed and painted. The symbols were separate elements that we applied gold foil onto before assembling with the rest.

Strange New World season 3 ep08.
We had fun with these Vulcan Rifles.

Concept and model from @missemprops and @pkroetsch.
We started with 3D printing master models of different parts to make molds and then casted hard hero versions of the rifles. The barrel was the only metal piece. No moving parts on those.

Strange New World season 3 ep10.
This is the Skygowan Guards sword.
Brought to us by @missemprops on a concept from @pkroetsch.

All 4 swords were resin printed in two halves with room for an armature to slide in when we put them together.

Lots of fine sanding and detail masking to get to this result 😄

Original mold of the blunderbuss we created for @gdtreal amazing Frankenstein movie.

This cast is for display only so we went for a rubber skin and rigid expanding foam.

Strange New World season 3 ep10.
The New Pelia Tech was brought to us by @missemprops. She designed it with @pkroetsch using elements of previous seasons and integrating new details.

Most of this build relied on resin 3D printing, including the clear parts but also laser cutting and engraving for the “cards”.
Some parts had to come together with magnets for the actors to interact with.

In June 2024 was taking place the 25th anniversary of Boondock Saints in Maryland USA.

Charles Taylor @moviearms owner of Movie Armaments Group @moviearmamentsgroup and MagWorks was the armourer in charge of the firearms for the movie.
We still have the original weapons and we made two sets of rubber replicas of the main handguns from Boondock Saints.

These rubbers were on display for the event and some were auctioned off at the end of the celebration.

@gdtreal Frankenstein. Viktor’s hero double barrel shotgun.
Muzzle loading side by side Pedersoli shotgun. One was deactivated for the clos-up shots where details mattered and we made two matching rubbers.
One regular unaltered version and one that was heavily weathered by the scenic department for the scene it is covered in ice and snow.
Custom and period accurate slings by our @grahamtheleatherguy.

Thanks to prop master @chrisgeggie for bringing us on board for such an incredible film.

Strange New World season 3 ep.09.
@missemprops brought to us this concept she designed with @pkroetsch and we worked in creative ways to bring to life this make shift Lensing Monocular.

It is a mix of UV resin printing, plexiglass, transparent resin, metal tubes and wires.

We had a hero version assembled and a second version in parts for the actor to pretend assembling the various elements together.

Umbrella Academy season 4. Hargreaves holds in his hands an HK PSG-1 precision rifle. It is a quite rare firearm produced between 1972 and 2014 that may seem familiar if you played the old Metal Gear Solid or Rainbow Six. One of our armourers is the lucky owner of an original PSG-1 that could have potentially be used, but in the scene it was in fact an airsoft replica, doubled with a rubber version we made for the occasion. #movieprops #torontofilm #filmindustry🎬📽️📼 #hecklerandkoch #propgun

Umbrella Academy season 4. Some of the rubber guns we made for the show and one of the most fun filming week despite the -5 Celsius 🥶 shoutout to Santa who had his birthday on the day we filmed him running through the main street “firing” his two FN Mark 46 light machine guns. Few takes were taken with the airsoft versions and the rest of the wider shots and drone shots with the lightweight rubber versions we made. A little peek behind the scene of Umbrella Academy Season 5… We’ve been developing for the past few years our own system of LED guns for the film industry. They allow actors to play with a very realistic firearm replica, have the action cycling and the muzzle flashing for each shot without the risk that blanks presents in situations where people are too close to the shots. In this case, it would be unsafe to use blanks with a crowd of people shooting so close to each other. Our LED guns bring light into the scene and mimic muzzle flashes which is a huge help in post production. Here we have a mix of about 25 LED handguns and LED rifles firing simultaneously. The rest of the weapons provided by us are either rubbers, airsoft replicas or deactivated firearms. Strange New World season 3 ep. 09. This is the Gorn Comms Array. Another project brought to us by @missemprops in collaboration with @pkroetsch. We had fun bringing to life the two different versions of this piece. One was a fully assembled prop rigged with LED strips in the crystals and all the cables running all the way down to the base. SNW lighting team was in charge of placing their remote control system within that base to trigger light effects in the scene. The second one was an interactive prop for the actor to assemble and tweak. The “satellite dish” and the center crystal were held together with powerful earth magnets. All the individual crystals on the “spine” were also outfitted with magnets. #startrek #torontofilm #filmindustry #movieprop #paramount

Strange New world season 3, ep 02.
We built these beautiful hero wedding flower boxes in 2023 on @missemprops request from a @pkroetsch original design. The latches were held closed by magnets so the box could be lifted from the handle but open simply by flipping the latches down. We resin printed the base and only one face for the top, with all the elements separated. We molded a complete set of parts to then cast everything 8 times, assemble all the faces and paint all the gold elements separately before final assembly. #torontofilm #strangenewworld #movieprops #filmindustry🎬📽️📼 #startrek

Twisted Metal Season 2.

We had the pleasure to collaborate with Em and build these Diesel City currency coins.
All resin prints, inner part and outer part painted separately, then assembled. Heavy weathering was helping a lot selling the metal look and matched the overall aesthetic of the show.

We had the privilege to bring to life this beautiful prop for Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein last year.

From Guillermo’s idea to the final prop we had several months of development starting from 3D modeling various designs to 3D printing mock-ups, machining and making the Blunderbuss capable of firing pyrotechnics.

We had to find the perfect compromise between the idea of a four rotating barrel weapon, the firearm technology (black powder) available at this time period and the ability to fire pyro with multiple triggers and hammers.

Our friends at Colpitts Design Inc did a fantastic job all along the process especially for the mechanical design, prototyping and machining.

Here are some more facts and details about the Blunderbuss :
The four barrels rotate and have spring-loaded pins to lock in position every quarter turn.
The pins are also used to transmit electrical impulse to trigger pyro in the barrels.
It has 3 triggers. One for each side hammer and one for the two center hammers.
Cables run on the inside all the way to the back of the buttstock to connect with the rest of the pyro equipment required to fire the Blunderbuss.

One of our proudest contributions to the film industry since we created Mag Works, department dedicated to prop making within our company Movie Armaments Group.

Have you seen Priscilla yet? It’s out in theatres now!

We did a variety of props for this film, including a custom Elvis police badge, some rubber guns, two custom jewelry boxes, and resin cups that wouldn’t break if the actor dropped them. We also refurbished an antique cake topper for their wedding scene, and made bows for Priscilla’s puppy.

We made these round riot shields for Titans S4. They needed to easily attach to the back of the actors riot gear which was a bit tricky. We were really happy with how they turned out.

Designed in house, the shields are vacuum formed plastic with CNC machined components.

Safe corkscrews we did for Titans season 4.

These were surprisingly difficult to mold and cast because of how thin some parts are. The handle is smooth cast 300 resin, and the corkscrew itself is a wire covered in heat shrink tubing to make it safe to put up against the actors skin.

Another custom dagger we made for Titans.

Just like the other ones, they provided a 3D file, then we printed and molded it. There is one hero dagger with a metal blade, and the rest are rubber.

The last picture is of the original printed dagger that we sanded and molded.

Some little gemstones we made for Titans.

They kinda looked a bit like Jolly Ranchers, but the internal glow they added in the show really sells it.

Some work in progress pictures from our Fallout gatling gun.

Almost all the parts were 3D printed, we couldn’t use any metal because of Fan Expos prop rules. Probably a good thing we didn’t because it was heavy enough without any metal parts.

The majority of the work on this was sanding, then we painted and assembled everything, including the electronics to make the barrel spin and the button light up.
